VARSHA NAIR

Varsha Nair is a visual artist who currently lives and works in Bangkok. Her recent solo and collaborative works which incorporate various media including her writings and performance, have been exhibited in Thailand and internationally. Co-organiser of the "Plastic Waste Project" (1997) and "Womanifesto" (2001), both international artist-initiated events which took place in Bangkok, she has also published reports on art events in Thailand in n.paradoxa, Art AsiaPacific, art4d, Bang, Bangkok Post and Tiempo, a publication on environmental issues.

She was an invited speaker at "co.operation," a conference on feminist art practice and theory held in Dubrovnik, Croatia, in 2000 and at "ASIA NOW - Women Artists’ Perspectives," an international symposium held at Ostasiatiska Museet, Stockholm, in September 2001.

Currently, she is organising a multi-media workshop to include ten artists which will take place in February 2002 in Baroda, India; and developing a collaborative project with artists from Thailand, Germany, Slovenia, Bosnia, Croatia, Australia, India, and USA which will be published in the Bangkok-based VER magazine.

Nair was born in Kampala, Uganda, and received a BFA from Maharaja Sayaji Rao University, Baroda, India.
